- The heat is extreme and constant. Averages near 40°C mean many days go higher, and the nights barely cool; even 6am is warm.
- June is dry, July and August stormy. The monsoon arrives around mid-July, with sudden afternoon thunderstorms, wind and flash floods.
- The sun is fierce. Shade at the pool is the most valuable seat in town, and a car parked in the sun becomes dangerous within minutes.
- The evenings are long. Sunset comes around 8pm in June and July, and the city comes alive after dark.
Is summer a good time to visit Las Vegas? For a pool holiday, shows and good restaurants at the lowest prices of the year, yes. For hiking, sightseeing on foot or anything outdoors in daylight, no. Plan the days around air conditioning and water, stay midweek for the best rates, and save the desert for the spring or autumn.

June is dry, with highs in the high 30s and almost no rain. School holidays begin in the United States and the pools and dayclubs are in full swing.
Juneteenth, a federal holiday, is observed on Friday 18 June 2027.
July is the hottest month and the cheapest for rooms outside the long weekend of Independence Day, Sunday 4 July 2027, observed on Monday 5 July, with fireworks over the Strip.
NBA Summer League usually fills the arenas at UNLV in mid-July, and the monsoon storms begin around the middle of the month.
August is almost as hot, a little more humid and stormy, and quiet once American schools go back in the middle of the month.
Labor Day, Monday 6 September 2027, closes the summer with one more busy pool weekend.
#What to Do in Las Vegas in Summer
Solo Travellers
Fill the mornings with the Mob Museum and the Neon Museum, give the afternoons to a shaded pool, and save the night for a show or the light canopy on Fremont Street.
Couples
Book a cabana for one lazy pool day, a rooftop or Strip-view dinner after sunset, and drive up to Mount Charleston, about an hour north-west and far cooler, for an evening in the pines.
Families
Children are happiest in the resort water parks, with lazy rivers and slides, and indoors at the Shark Reef Aquarium and the resort arcades.
Groups
Weekend dayclubs with headline DJs are the summer's big draw, and the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends are the biggest parties of the season. Book cabanas and tables well ahead.
#Getting Around
Taxis and rideshares wait in the marked zones at Harry Reid International Airport, a short ride from the Strip. Get around the Strip on the air-conditioned Deuce, the Las Vegas Monorail on the east side, and the indoor walkways, bridges and free trams between neighbouring resorts.
In summer, do not walk long stretches of the Strip by day: distances are deceptive and the pavements radiate heat. If you hire a car, park in garages or shade, and never leave anyone or a pet inside.

Summer is the easiest season to book the city's best restaurants, with tables available days rather than weeks ahead and summer menus at some.

After dark is the time to be out, and the city is ready: residencies run all summer, the clubs are busy every weekend, and downtown's Fremont Street is pleasant once the sun has set. Weeknights are much quieter than weekends.

The connected, air-conditioned resort malls are the summer choice. The outlet centres are cheaper but mean crossing very hot car parks; go in the evening.

If you need cooler air: the pine forests of Mount Charleston, an hour's drive north-west, run well over 10 degrees cooler than the Strip.
