Southern Hemisphere Seasons
Sydney's seasons are the mirror image of Europe and North America — a fact that catches many first-time visitors off guard.
Summer & Spring — Beaches and Bloom
Summer (December–February) is the peak: beach weather at Bondi, the famous New Year's Eve harbour fireworks, and long golden evenings that justify the city's global reputation. It's busy and expensive, but undeniably spectacular. Spring (September–November) brings warming temperatures, wildflower blooms in the Blue Mountains, and the Sydney Running Festival.
Autumn & Winter — The Quieter Side
Autumn (March–May) is Sydney's secret season — warm days, quieter beaches, and the city settling into its own rhythm after the summer rush. Winter (June–August) is mild by world standards (rarely below 10°C), and the Sydney Film Festival, Vivid Sydney's light festival, and whale migration along the coast make it genuinely worthwhile.
