March is the month the desert is at its absolute best and the city is at its busiest for reasons that have nothing to do with the weather. The college basketball tournament fills every sportsbook in town for the middle weekend, the NASCAR weekend brings the Motor Speedway into play, and spring break overlaps with both.

For anyone who came to hike, this is the month.

Afternoons reach about 22°C, the nights are cool rather than cold, and a wet winter occasionally leaves the desert briefly green.

Las Vegas in March averages 10–22°C (50–72°F) with around 3 days of rain, and crowds are high.

Days reach around 22°C with nights near 10°C, which is the most comfortable combination of the first half of the year.

Rain averages three days.

March is also the windiest month. An afternoon that feels mild in the shade can be genuinely unpleasant on an exposed ridge or a canyon viewpoint, and it is the one weather complaint the month reliably earns.

Daylight saving begins in March in the United States, which pushes the evening light an hour later and materially lengthens what you can do outdoors after work on the Strip.

#What to Do in Las Vegas in March

Red Rock Canyon, properly. About 27 kilometres west, and March is the best hiking month of the Las Vegas year. The scenic loop is the easy version; the trails leading off it are the reason to come.

Valley of Fire. Roughly 80 kilometres north-east. A full day, the better rock, and the colour at its most saturated in March light.

The tournament, mid-month. The middle weekend of March is the single busiest stretch of the year in the city's sportsbooks, and the atmosphere is the draw whether or not you bet. Reserve a seat well ahead at the larger properties.

NASCAR at the Motor Speedway. The spring race weekend runs 19 to 21 March 2027, with the Pennzoil 400 as the Cup Series headline. It fills hotels well beyond the Speedway's own area.

#Getting Around

Comfortable for walking, and the month where a car pays for itself most clearly. Red Rock, Valley of Fire and Lake Mead are all at their best and none of them is reachable without one.

The tournament weekend concentrates demand on rideshare and on the sportsbooks themselves rather than on the roads. The NASCAR weekend, by contrast, puts serious traffic on the route north to the Motor Speedway, about 24 kilometres up the interstate.

The Deuce and the monorail run as always.

#Budget & Costs

March is expensive, and the two weekends that drive it are predictable rather than mysterious. The tournament weekend and the race weekend both lift room rates hard. The weeks between them are ordinary spring pricing, which is to say high but not extraordinary.

The resort fee and 13.38% room tax apply as ever.

The canyons remain the best value going: a modest vehicle entry and nothing else, in the month they are at their peak.

#Food & Dining

March is hard for reservations, and the difficulty is concentrated. The tournament weekend and the race weekend both book out the Strip dining rooms; the weeks between them behave more like February.

Chinatown on Spring Mountain Road stays reachable and stays the best value in the city, and March is the first month its patios are genuinely pleasant.

#Nightlife

The dayclub season begins to stir toward the end of the month, though the water is still cold and the scene does not properly arrive until April. The indoor clubs run at full strength, with the tournament weekend among the busiest of the year.

Downtown, under the Fremont canopy, is at its best in March: warm enough to be outside, not yet hot.

#Shopping

New-season stock rather than discounts. The outlets remain better value than the resort malls, and sales tax is added at the till.

#Culture & Etiquette

The tipping expectations do not change: fifteen to twenty per cent at a table, a dollar or two a drink, cash for housekeeping.

Casino floors are still built to keep you on them and dress codes at the better rooms still apply.

March adds sportsbook etiquette for the tournament weekend. Seats are reserved, often with a minimum spend, and the books fill early in the morning rather than at the start of play.

March risks come from the weather being good enough to overreach. A trail comfortable at eleven is hot by two, water runs out faster than expected in dry air, and afternoon wind on an exposed ridge is cold enough to matter.

Flash flooding is a real if occasional hazard in the canyons after spring rain, and a dry wash can fill from a storm you never saw. Take closures seriously.

In the city, the tournament weekend is a heavy drinking stretch from early morning onward.
