June is a month of two halves. The first three weeks are warm, sunny and still reasonably dry: early summer, with highs in the high 20s and some of the longest evenings of the year, when the sun does not set until nearly eight. Then the monsoon arrives. Over 1991–2020 the jangma front reached Seoul on 25 June on average, and the last week of the month often brings heavy rain and the start of the humid season.

Long evenings by the river
With the sun setting at nearly eight, June evenings are the longest of the year, and the Han riverside parks are at their best. The rainbow fountain on Banpo Bridge usually runs through the warmer months. The weekend night markets along the river are in full swing.
Dano, the early summer festival
Dano, the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, falls on 9 June in 2027. It is one of the old seasonal festivals: women traditionally washed their hair in water boiled with iris leaves, men wrestled at ssireum, and everyone rode swings. Namsangol Hanok Village usually marks it with traditional games and performances.
Memorial Day
6 June is Memorial Day, when the country remembers those who died in war. At 10am a siren sounds nationwide and people stop for a minute's silence. The main ceremony is held at Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak. In 2027 it falls on a Sunday.
Bukchon by day, Seochon by evening
June light lasts until nearly eight, but the most photographed lanes of Bukchon Hanok Village close to sightseers at 5pm. Since March 2025, Jongno district has limited tourist visits to the residential red zone around Bukchon-ro 11-gil to between 10am and 5pm, with a ₩100,000 fine outside those hours, because people live in these houses. Go in the late morning and keep your voice down. Spend the long evening in Seochon instead, the older neighbourhood on the west side of Gyeongbokgung, whose lanes around Tongin Market are full of small restaurants and bars.
Before the rain: the palaces and the wall
Until the rains come, June is the last comfortable stretch for long days outdoors before September. Walk a section of the city wall, visit Changdeokgung's Secret Garden on a booked tour, or spend a day on the palace circuit before the monsoon and heat arrive.

June's heat makes the air-conditioned subway welcome. In the last week, once the rains begin, allow extra time: heavy downpours slow the roads, and taxis are hard to find in a storm.
Hiking is best early in the day in June, before the heat builds. The trails on Bukhansan and Inwangsan are busy at weekends from dawn.
