#Weather in Las Vegas in August

Las Vegas in August averages 27–39°C (81–102°F) with around 2 days of rain, and crowds are medium.

What that actually means for your trip:

• It is almost as hot as July. Afternoons near 39°C and nights that barely drop below 27°C; the heat at midnight surprises most first-time visitors.
• The air is less dry. Monsoon moisture raises the humidity, so the same temperature feels heavier than in June.
• Storms come fast. On a monsoon afternoon, a clear sky can turn to thunder, wind, dust and a downpour within an hour, then clear again.
• Flash floods are the real hazard. Dry washes and underpasses fill in minutes, sometimes from rain that fell miles away.

Is August a good time to visit Las Vegas? It is, for a cheap trip built around pools and air conditioning, especially in the second half of the month. Rooms are among the cheapest of the year, the pools and dayclubs are still open, and restaurants and shows are easy to book. It is no month for the desert: hiking is for first light only, and the storms make the canyons dangerous.

#August in the city

The monsoon brings Las Vegas its stormiest weeks. Moist air from the south feeds afternoon and evening thunderstorms that drop heavy rain in a short time on ground that cannot absorb it, so a storm in the hills can flood a wash or a road in the valley within minutes. The National Weather Service issues flash flood warnings to phones; take them seriously.

The schools go back in Clark County, usually in the second week of August, and the family visitors from neighbouring states start to thin out. The last two weeks of the month are among the quietest of the year on the Strip.

Labor Day weekend starts on Saturday 4 September 2027, with the holiday on Monday the 6th, so the last days of August are when the pool clubs and rates begin to build again for one last summer weekend.

#What to Do in Las Vegas in August

Solo Travellers

Spend the afternoons inside, at the Neon Museum's evening tour of old casino signs, the Mob Museum downtown, or a residency show, and the mornings by the pool before the heat peaks.

Couples

Rent a poolside daybed on a Tuesday or Wednesday, when it costs a fraction of the weekend price, and dinner on a covered terrace after dark. A late-night show is the August evening plan.

Families

Choose a resort with a lazy river and shaded pools, and plan the indoor attractions: the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay, the arcades and the shows, with Springs Preserve's indoor galleries, and its garden at opening time.

Groups

The dayclubs run until early September, and their August weekends are cheaper and easier to get into than June's. Book tables and daybeds ahead for the Labor Day weekend.

#Getting Around

From Harry Reid International Airport, a cab or an app car reaches most Strip hotels in fifteen minutes or so. In town, the air-conditioned Deuce bus never stops running, the monorail links the MGM Grand with the SAHARA along the back of the east-side hotels, and covered walkways and free trams join several resorts.

In August, walking any distance outdoors at midday is exhausting; move between air-conditioned spaces. When a storm breaks, rideshare prices rise and roads slow, so wait it out indoors.

#Budget & Costs

August rates are among the lowest of the year, and lowest of all midweek in the second half of the month.

Costs worth knowing:

• Stay Sunday to Thursday for the best rates.
• Watch the forecast before any drive into the desert.
• Compare totals including the 13.38% tax.

#Food & Dining

August is the easiest month of the summer to book the Strip's best restaurants, especially midweek. Lunch is a cold-dining-room meal; terraces work only after dark, and the noodle and dumpling houses of Chinatown, west of the Strip, are the city's best value at any hour.

#Nightlife

The nightclubs run as usual, the dayclubs are in their last full month, and the rooftop bars open their terraces after sunset, now just after 7pm by the end of the month, while Fremont Street downtown is cheaper, and its canopy gives cover in a storm.

#Shopping

The back-to-school sales bring discounts at the outlets and malls in August. Stay inside the resort malls in the afternoon; the walk across an outlet car park at 3pm is the hardest part of the trip. Price tags exclude sales tax.

#Culture & Etiquette

• Tip as Americans do: around a fifth of the bill at a table, a dollar or two per round at the bar, and cash for the pool attendants.
• Respect road closures during storms: they are not advisory.
• Dress codes apply at nightclubs and smart restaurants.
• Over-21s only at dayclubs, nightclubs and casino floors, with ID checked.

#Backup Plans (Heat or a Storm)

If a storm is forecast: stay inside, in a show, a museum or a resort, and avoid washes, underpasses and desert roads until it has passed.

If the heat is too much: keep to shaded pools, air-conditioned museums and shows, and save outdoor plans for after sunset.

If you need a change of scene: drive up to Mount Charleston in the morning, before the afternoon storms.

#Safety & Health

Heat is a danger all month: drink before you are thirsty, rest in shade, and learn the signs of heat exhaustion, dizziness, nausea, headache and cramps. The monsoon adds flash floods and lightning: stay out of washes and off exposed trails in a storm, and never cross moving water. A parked car becomes lethal within minutes, so take children and pets with you.
