What that actually means for your trip:
- This is the comfortable month. Warm, dry afternoons and mild evenings make April one of the two or three best months of the year for being outdoors.
- The heat is on its way. The last week can touch 30°C, a first taste of the summer to come, so hike early in the day.
- The light lasts. With sunset after 7pm, there is time for a canyon in the afternoon and a show in the evening.
- Spring winds can blow. A windy day brings dust and makes the pools chilly, though it usually passes within a day or two.
Is April a good time to visit Las Vegas? Yes. The weather is about as good as the desert gets: warm enough for the pools, cool enough to walk the Strip and hike Red Rock Canyon, and almost never wet. The catch is price, because everyone else knows it too; April is one of the most expensive months, with few quiet weeks, so book early and stay midweek where you can.

April has no single event that takes over the city, and that is part of its appeal. Instead, it is busy throughout.
Spring break brings American students and families in the first half of the month, California fills the weekends, and the convention centre hosts large trade shows; the NAB Show, the broadcast industry's fair, usually lands in April, so check its dates before booking.
The pool season gets going properly.
Most resort pools open by April, and the dayclubs, the ticketed pool parties with DJs, begin their season, mostly at weekends at first. In the desert, it is the end of the best hiking season: the wildflowers that follow a wet winter fade by the end of the month, and from May the midday heat closes in.

Solo Travellers
Hike Red Rock's Calico Hills or the longer Turtlehead Peak trail in the morning, then spend the late afternoon at Valley of Fire, where the Fire Wave and White Domes trails glow at sunset.
Evenings suit the Neon Museum and downtown's Fremont Street.
Couples
Book a cabana or a quiet pool day, a sunset drive back from Valley of Fire, and a dinner with a Strip view.
The Bellagio Conservatory has its spring display, and the fountains run every evening.
Families
Hoover Dam, a boat trip on Lake Mead and the Shark Reef Aquarium suit the warm days; the resort pools with lazy rivers and slides are open. Spring break weeks are busy, so book the dam tour ahead.
Groups
The first dayclub weekends of the year, a night at the clubs and a tee time on one of the desert golf courses before the heat arrives. Book everything early, because April is busy.

Most visitors fly into Harry Reid International Airport, a short taxi or rideshare from the Strip.
The Deuce double-decker covers the Boulevard around the clock, and the monorail runs behind the east-side resorts.
Hire a car for the desert.
Red Rock Canyon, about 30 minutes west, keeps its timed-entry reservations for the Scenic Drive between 8am and 5pm until the end of May; Valley of Fire is about an hour north-east, Hoover Dam about 45 minutes south-east, and Lake Mead close to it.

Chinatown, west of the Strip on Spring Mountain Road, has the best value and outdoor tables that suit the mild evenings.

The dayclubs open for the season and the nightclubs are busy every weekend, both expensive and best booked in advance.
