June is the first month that is properly the wet season. Rainfall more than doubles on May and the wet-day count goes from eleven to sixteen, which means the afternoon storm stops being an event and becomes the shape of the day.
It is also cooler than April by two degrees, and the air is clean again. The ozone season that ran from mid-February breaks through June, and the rain keeps taking particulates out of the valley. For anyone who found the spring difficult, June is the recovery.
The city is green. This is the month the valley stops looking like a dry plateau.

Mornings, without compromise
Teotihuacán, the Centro, Xochimilco and Chapultepec are all morning plans now, and June mornings are excellent: clear, cool, and far emptier than the dry-season equivalent.
The volcanoes
Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl appear on washed mornings after a storm, which is a June and July speciality. The dry season's haze hides them for months; the rains give them back.
Marcha del Orgullo (late June)
Mexico City's Pride march is among the largest in Latin America and it takes the full length of Reforma from Chapultepec down to the Zócalo, which is the city's standard route for anything that matters. Hundreds of thousands attend, the square holds a concert at the end of it, and Zona Rosa — the city's gay neighbourhood, around Génova and Amberes — runs all weekend.
⚠️ The date moves, usually falling on a Saturday late in the month. Confirm it for your year rather than assuming, and expect Reforma to be closed to traffic for most of the day.
The green south
Xochimilco's canals are fuller, and the volcanic country and forest south of the city — the Ajusco side — is at its best in this season rather than in the dry months when it is brown.
Museums, as the plan rather than the fallback
Antropología, the Museo Nacional de Arte, the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Soumaya each absorb an afternoon. In June that is the itinerary, not a contingency.

Build the day around the storm. Mornings are reliably clear enough to plan outdoors; from roughly three in the afternoon, movement across the city becomes unpredictable and staying put becomes sensible.
