October is the turn. Rainfall drops from 158mm to 71mm and wet days from eighteen to ten, which means the afternoon storm stops being the certainty it was and becomes an occasional interruption. Mornings stay clear, evenings cool, and the valley is still green from the months behind it.
It is the best combination the year offers: the greenery of the wet season with the reliability of the dry one arriving. The one cost is that the haze begins to return as the rain stops washing it out.

The Mexico City Grand Prix (late October)
Formula 1 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, and one of the loudest weekends on the calendar. The stadium section, where the track runs through a former baseball ground, is the part that makes this race distinctive — a grandstand wrapped almost entirely around the cars.
⚠️ It is the single largest week for hotel prices outside Día de Muertos. Confirm the dates and ticketing with the promoter rather than a listings site, and book accommodation months rather than weeks ahead.
The marigolds arrive
From about the third week, Mercado de Jamaica turns orange as cempasúchil comes in for Día de Muertos. Whole halls of it. This is the best time of year to visit that market and it costs nothing.
Teotihuacán and the canyons, comfortably
October is the first month since March in which the pyramids are neither too hot nor reliably wet. Go in the morning regardless.
The ofrendas going up
Public altars appear across the city in the last week of October — in the Zócalo, at the universities, in museum courtyards. The city begins to change character before November arrives.

The wet-season discipline can relax through October. Afternoons become dependable enough to plan across the city again, and by the last week the rain is an exception rather than the schedule.
⚠️ Grand Prix week is the exception in the other direction. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez sits in the east of the city and the roads and Metro around it are heavily loaded for the race weekend.

Air quality is good in the first half and starts to decline as the rains stop washing the valley out. It does not become a problem until the new year.
