What that actually means for your trip:
- Forty degrees is the average, not the extreme. A run of afternoons above 40°C is an ordinary July, and some days go well beyond it.
- The nights do not cool down. With lows near 28°C, there is no cool morning to save the day; even dawn is warm.
- The monsoon arrives mid-month. From around the middle of July, storms can build in the afternoon, bringing wind, lightning and flash floods in a matter of minutes.
- The sun is relentless. Shade is the most valuable thing at any pool, and car interiors become dangerous within minutes.
Is July a good time to visit Las Vegas? For a pool, a show and a good dinner, yes: room rates are at their lowest of the year, the dayclubs are at their peak and the restaurants are easy to book. For anything outdoors in daylight, no. Plan the days around air conditioning and water, and save hiking for another season.

Independence Day falls on Sunday 4 July 2027, with the federal holiday on Monday 5 July. The long weekend is the busiest of the month, with pool parties at every resort and fireworks over the Strip and in the suburbs on the night of the Fourth; several resorts usually stage their own displays, so check which ones before choosing where to watch.
The rest of the month is quiet for conventions and cheap for rooms.
NBA Summer League, the professional basketball league's showcase for new players, usually fills the arenas at UNLV in the middle of the month, and the city's residency shows run all summer.
The monsoon season reaches Las Vegas from about mid-July. Most days stay dry and blazing, but storms can build quickly in the late afternoon, flooding washes and underpasses with little warning.
#What to Do in Las Vegas in July
Solo Travellers
Spend the mornings at the Mob Museum and the Neon Museum, the afternoons at a pool, and the evenings at a residency show or downtown under the Fremont Street canopy.
Couples
Rent a cabana for a pool day, book a dinner with a view of the Strip, and watch the Bellagio fountains after dark, when the heat eases.
A sunset drive up Mount Charleston, about an hour north-west and far cooler, is the classic escape.
Families
The resort pools with lazy rivers and slides, the Shark Reef Aquarium, and the indoor rides and arcades of the big resorts keep children busy through the heat of the day.
Groups
The dayclubs are at their peak, with big-name DJs at weekends; the Fourth of July weekend is the biggest party of the summer. Book cabanas, daybeds and tables well ahead.
#Getting Around
From Harry Reid International Airport, taxis and rideshares from the marked zones reach the Strip in a short ride.
Along the Boulevard, the Deuce runs around the clock with air conditioning, and the Las Vegas Monorail serves the east side.
Between neighbouring resorts, use the indoor walkways, bridges and free trams, which cover more ground than most visitors realise. If you hire a car, park in the shade or a garage, and never leave anyone, or a pet, inside it.

July is the easiest month of the year to eat well in Las Vegas. Demand is low, reservations open up days rather than weeks ahead, and some restaurants run summer menus or offers midweek.
Chinatown, along Spring Mountain Road, is the best value in the city. Patios only work after dark.
#Nightlife
After dark is the only comfortable time to be outside, and the city makes the most of it: the clubs and dayclubs are at full strength, the residencies run all summer, and downtown's Fremont Street is pleasant once the sun has set. Weekends are busy; weeknights are much quieter.
#Shopping
Stay indoors: the resort malls are connected, cool and open late. The outlet centres are cheaper but involve crossing very hot car parks; go in the evening.

- Tips are part of the bill: 15–20% in restaurants, a dollar or two per drink at the bar, and cash for pool attendants, valets and housekeeping.
- A dayclub is not a hotel pool: it charges entry, has a dress code and admits over-21s only.
- Dress codes still apply at clubs and better restaurants, whatever the temperature.

Heat is the real danger in July. The dry air hides how much water you lose, and alcohol speeds dehydration; drink water between drinks, and treat dizziness, nausea or a headache as a sign to get into the shade and cool down.
Check for excessive heat warnings from the National Weather Service, and avoid hiking. In a monsoon storm, keep out of washes and flooded roads.
