From the organiser, the GSMA: Monday 1 to Thursday 4 March 2027 at Fira Gran Via. Figures and transport details here describe the last edition, 2 to 5 March 2026; this one’s are confirmed nearer the time. The 2028 dates had not been published in October 2026.
MWC is the mobile and connectivity industry’s big congress, four days at Fira Gran Via in L’Hospitalet, just outside Barcelona. It is a business event: at the last edition every badge came with a free public transport pass covering the airport run, and the airport metro stops at the venue. If you are not going, it matters anyway, because it fills the city’s hotels. Book early either way.
What MWC Barcelona actually is
The GSMA’s annual congress for the mobile industry and the businesses built on it: exhibition halls, keynotes and a great deal of meeting. The last edition drew about 105,000 attendees from 207 countries and territories, with 2,900 exhibitors, sponsors and partners.
It runs alongside 4YFN, the start-up event, which has its own entrance at the north end of the same site.
Fira Gran Via is not in central Barcelona. It sits in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, on the way to the airport, in halls designed by Toyo Ito, which is why the journey there shapes the day more than people expect.
Getting around that week
- The free transport pass. At the last edition every attendee got one, valid for unlimited buses, metro and local FGC trains in Zone 1, including one trip to or from the airport. It was collected by showing the digital badge in the MWC app.
- Pick it up before leaving baggage reclaim. The airport stands sat just before the exit of the reclaim halls in T1, T2B and T2C; once you walk out, you cannot go back in. There were also stands at the venue and at Plaça Espanya’s FGC station.
- The metro from the airport. Line L9 Sud runs from both terminals to the Fira and Europa|Fira stations at the venue. From the city centre, change to L9 at Collblanc or Torrassa, or take any FGC train from Plaça Espanya to Europa|Fira for the main entrance.
Tickets and what it costs
Attending needs a paid pass from the organiser. This edition’s passes had not been released in mid-October.
The cost most people underestimate is the room. The organiser itself warns that the best hotel rooms are booked months ahead and runs an official accommodation partner with negotiated rates.

Getting there
Use public transport. The organiser recommends it over driving, since roadworks across Barcelona add delays, and with the pass it costs nothing.
Taxis use ranks at the fairground. If you are staying near the venue rather than in the centre, the walk or a short metro ride is the easiest commute of the week.
Mistakes worth avoiding
Walking out of baggage reclaim first
The airport pass stands sit inside the reclaim area. Leave without collecting and you pay for the trip into town.
Booking a hotel late
The organiser says the best rooms go months ahead. Book as soon as your trip is confirmed.
Staying far from the L9 or FGC lines
The venue is out by the airport. A hotel on the metro line or near Plaça Espanya saves time every morning.
Planning a holiday in Barcelona that week by accident
If you are not attending, choose another week in March. Rooms are scarce while the congress runs.
Driving to the venue
The organiser warns of delays and detours on Barcelona’s roads. Public transport is quicker, and free with the pass.
