New York Comic Con is the East Coast’s biggest pop-culture convention, four days of panels, exhibitors, artists and cosplay at the Javits Center in Manhattan every October. Tickets go through the organiser’s presale, so set up a Fan Verification profile early. Collect your badge before the show if you can, activate it before you arrive, and take the 7 train to 34 St–Hudson Yards, one block away.
What New York Comic Con actually is
A ReedPop convention covering comics, publishing, film, television, games and toys, with a show floor of exhibitors, an Artist Alley, panels on several stages, and cosplay everywhere. The last edition was its twentieth.
It fills the Javits Center, which runs five blocks along 11th Avenue, from the glass Crystal Palace at West 34th Street to the newer North Javits at 39th Street. Last time the show floor opened from 10am to 7pm Thursday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday, while panels ran until 10pm or 11pm.
How to plan the four days
- Get your badge early. Will Call, in the Crystal Palace, opened for several days before the last edition, and the organiser warns that the Thursday line gets long. Bring a printed copy of your confirmation: in a long queue they keep the paper to move you along faster.
- Activate it before you set out. Badges have to be activated online before they will let you in. Buyers outside the United States collect theirs at Will Call rather than having them mailed.
- Reserve the big panels. Seats for the Main Stage and Empire Stage panels, places in line for exhibitor exclusives and some autographs are handled through the organiser’s reservation system, so book what matters to you ahead.
- Use the right door. At the last edition general-admission badges went in through the Green Entrances, at 11th Avenue and 38th Street or on 34th Street between 11th and 12th, while Will Call, VIP and accessibility entry used the Blue Entrance at the Crystal Palace.
Tickets and what it costs
Tickets are sold by the organiser by the day or for all four days, with prices that vary by day, and this edition’s had not been published in mid-October. Signing up for the newsletter and creating a Fan Verification profile is the way into the presale, and the profile is also how tickets are accepted and transferred.
Most autographs, photo ops and special signings are paid extras, and each needs a badge for the same day.

Getting there
Take the 7 train to 34 St–Hudson Yards; the convention centre is one block away. Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall, for Amtrak, NJ Transit and the Long Island Rail Road, are a walk east along 34th Street.
Driving into Manhattan south of 61st Street now means congestion pricing, so leave the car.
Mistakes worth avoiding
Leaving badge collection to Thursday morning
Will Call opens before the show. Collect then and skip the longest line of the week.
Forgetting to activate the badge
An unactivated badge will not get you in. Do it online before you leave for the venue.
Turning up for a big panel without a reservation
Main Stage and Empire Stage seats go through the reservation system. Book the ones you care about in advance.
Queuing at the wrong entrance
Will Call and general admission use different doors at opposite ends of the building. Check which one your badge needs.
