Dates from the festival’s own preliminary schedule: a community day with a free night-time opening party on Thursday 22 April, then three full days to Sunday 25 April. Tickets were not yet on sale in mid-October, and the venue for this edition had not been confirmed; the last one was at The Yoga Barn in Ubud.
The BaliSpirit Festival is four days of yoga, breathwork, dance, sound healing and live music in Ubud in late April. The first day is a community day: the grounds and stages are open, workshops are paid for one at a time, and the night-time opening party is free. The three days after it are for pass holders, with workshops all day and music into the night. Passes for this edition had not gone on sale in mid-October; the main one covers all four days. Stay within walking distance if you can, because Ubud’s traffic is the hardest part of getting there.
What BaliSpirit Festival actually is
It is less a single show than a campus: several stages and workshop spaces run at once, from early yoga classes to evening concerts, with a market of healers and makers, the Dharma Fair, alongside. Most people build their own day from the schedule.
The programme is broad on purpose. Alongside many styles of yoga there is breathwork, qi gong, ecstatic dance, kirtan, sound healing and talks, and the evening stages turn to live music and DJ sets.
Ubud is the setting for good reason. The town has been a centre for yoga retreats for years, and late April is the start of the dry season, when the afternoon downpours are fading.
How to spend it
- Come on the first day if you are not sure. The community day lets you walk the grounds, try a workshop or two at a time and stay for the free opening party before committing to a pass.
- Plan each day from the schedule the evening before, because several workshops run at once and the grounds take time to cross.
- Leave room for the evenings. Music and dancing run after the daytime programme, and they are a different festival from the one in the morning yoga classes.
Tickets and what it costs
The festival sells mainly a pass for all four days, with day passes available at the gate. Children aged 2 to 12 go free, there is a discounted pass for teenagers, Indonesian nationals and residents get local rates, and groups of ten or more can ask for a group price.
All sales are final, with no refunds or exchanges, so the organisers suggest travel insurance that covers the ticket.

Getting there
Ubud is about ninety minutes by car from the airport, and its traffic is heavy, especially on the street where the last edition was held. The organisers recommend motorbike taxis booked through Gojek or Grab, dropped at the gate.
There was no parking at the last venue’s entrance, only a public car park down the street. Staying within walking distance, around the Monkey Forest end of town, saves the daily journey.
Mistakes worth avoiding
Driving in for each day
Ubud’s streets jam, and the last venue had no parking of its own. A motorbike taxi or a room within walking distance beats a car.
Skipping the community day
The first day costs nothing to enter, workshops are paid one at a time and the opening party is free. It is the cheapest way to find out whether a pass is worth it.
Buying a pass you might not use
Sales are final, with no refunds or exchanges. Be sure of your dates before buying, or take insurance that covers the ticket.
Booking Ubud late
Rooms in central Ubud fill for festival week. Book early if the festival is the reason for the trip.
Expecting a retreat
It is busy and social, with several stages at once and music into the night. For quiet practice, book a retreat in another week.
